...do you mind if I think out loud?
...I appreciate it, sometimes...well, sometimes it is just nice to think out loud and see what comes out...so, here we go...
...Once upon a time...ha, just kidding. So, tonight (evening before Sun Valley, Idaho mini-tour with Maurice the Fish)...Nick, Skoog and I smoked some stogies and talked about life, got me thinking. What is it that truly makes us happy? Me? Thanks for asking, well maybe thinking that, anyway...what makes me happy is making music...performing music. Duh! I know that if you are on my website, you have figured it out already. But remember, I'm just thinking out loud. What is it about music that make me so happy? When worlds fail...music speaks to us...a friend reminded me today about music therapy. I've noticed lately that when I'm playing music (mostly in a live setting) my foot pain goes away. Hmm...maybe there is something to this music therapy thing? You think? What is it about music? Is it just music...or is passions that drive our souls to heal our physical impetiments.
Passions can be so intense...no matter what you do, maybe it is just the distraction that our passions create that pushes our minds away from other stresses in life. Again, remember, I'm just thinking out loud.
End result, passions, whatever they may be are good for our souls. My friends have passions that are different from mine....Hunter and his flying...Terri and her healing massages and beautiful writing...Mikey R. and his XOTTO and other internet ventures...K'dog (Kevin B.) and his shared passion with music...Skoog and his on-going You Tube skit desires...Heidi V. and her photography...Davebo' and his never ending desire to hook his friends up with the coolest new gadgets...Jolene and Charlie and their wine bar...Joyann and her non-profits...Scotty Zepp' and his constant encouragement and shared desire to "rock out"...Dawnzella and her shared desire to sing to the world...M21 and her passion for our friendship...Roman and the skin pounding on his Mike Pourtnoy snare drum during his retirement...LA Ray and his love of Neil Diamond...Sheena and her desire to rock the radio waves in LA...Danielle and her unbelieveable talents: songwriting/directing/writing/acting/inspiring/etc.../did I miss anything D? =)
...and on and on and on....you get the picture.
Different passions...different approaches...different muses and inspiration...love of one sort or another drives it all. Am I right, or am I right? FYI...that is rhetorical...
Phew...I am babbling again...
As I sit here in front of my fireplace, with my lil' dog (Bear) by my side...quiet house, tall glass of ice tea next to me and Seinfeld on the tele'...well, you get the pictue...life is good...writing on my laptop...my only desire is that, "if" you get where I'm coming from, you'll get to it. Don't let your passions be..."I'll start next Monday." No New Years' resolutions...just do what you love...you'll be happy you started. Baby steps might be prudent, but...a step is a step in the right direction.
If you'd like to write about your passion and why it is so important to you or others, write it and email it to me at mauricethefish@aol.com. And with YOUR permission, I'll post it as a "guest blog" on my BLOG. Why should I be the only one rambling...besides, I promise that it'll inspire someone else to stop procrastinating.
O.K., I'm done...
Ooops...one more thought: "Stepping outside the norm' is difficult, but the end result is that you'll be happier being true to yourself."
G'night friends...
much love,
raymond
